Due to the fact that The Netherlands are geographically located in the North of Europe, one may think they know well the concept of poop scooping, like Germany for example. Wrong!
Ducth people are very bad at that, and streets (which at times includes your front door) are literally covered with our best friends droppings. The Municipality in The Hague claims a big effort is done to solve this problem, including charging a yearly tax of 111,96€ for the first dog and 175,44€ for the second one, but it doesn't look like it's working to me.
This picture was taken yesterday in front of my house (the neighborhood is called Bezuidenhout), after a week the bin has been in these conditions already.

When I go out at night I take a pocket light with me, for two reasons: to find my dogs' poop in the dark, and also to avoid stepping into other dogs' poop all the time!
